What is a Bed Bug?

Bed bugs are small parasites that feed on human blood. They are often found in beds and furniture, with a size comparable to an apple seed (up to 10 mm). Their mahogany or reddish-brown bodies are visible to the naked eye. Although nocturnal and small, bed bugs can hide in crevices as narrow as a credit card.

Life Cycle & Behavior

A female bed bug can lay 1-5 eggs per day, totaling up to 540 eggs in her lifetime. Eggs hatch in 6-17 days, and nymphs become adults after five stages of development within 21 days. Bed bugs can survive over a year without feeding in cooler temperatures. They hide in dark, narrow spaces, such as beds, curtains, and even behind electrical outlets. Bed bug bites may not appear for up to 14 days and, though generally mild, can sometimes cause allergic reactions.

Prevention Tips

Regularly inspect your bedding, furniture, and luggage. Seal cracks and crevices in your home to prevent bed bugs from entering. If you suspect an infestation, contact a professional pest control service immediately.
